Let me tell you - when you live in Saint-Léonard, there's a lot of perks when it comes to food. You've got the best bakeries, pastry shops, specialty food stores and as the BF has recently discovered: THE BEST butcher, AGA Boucherie.
Having grown up in the area, you'd think I'd know all the delicious gems in Saint-Leo, however I've never been much of a meat-eater so I can't say I ever truly appreciated meat (or knew anything about it for that matter...) This of course took a turn when the BF - a proponent of "a meal isn't a meal unless it contains meat" - came into my life. We were initially living in an area that was lacking in everything culinary so moving back to Saint-Leonard has been a super tasty adventure. It's filled with fresh eats at good prices and at great quality - you just have to know where to look!
The BF and I dropped by AGA Boucherie last week to get to know them a lil' better (and take these yummy pics)
Family-run and open for 30 years, AGA Boucherie caters to customers from all over Montreal and beyond. They keep your fave restaurants and reception halls stocked with fresh high quality meat cuts and have loyal customers near and far coming back for more.
They've got the classics like big hunks of steak (that the BF is OBSESSED with), Italian sausages, grain-fed turkey and chicken, but they also surprise us with their ever-so-unique Veal Lollipop that is not only their own creation but their top seller as well.
Don't have time to whip up a homecooked meal? No worries. While there, we learned that AGA also offers lots of precooked meals including homemade sauces and ready-to-eat dinners.
They have catering services as well, with their most popular item being the prepared porchetta, which sell like hotcakes on weekends. Better give them a call if you want some! We dropped by the shop on a Friday, when these babies were in the oven where they are slow-cooked for a whole 8 hours. Don't they look amazing? I had some in a panini a few months ago and it was honestly PERFECT.
Aside from the obvious quality you get, my biggest fascination with AGA Boucherie is hands down the service. I've walked in there a dozen times and each time, there was a big team of friendly butchers ready to prepare my order. The service is phenomenal: they're quick, and they all legitimately seem to have a love for what they do. When I asked what it takes to keep a team happy and ready to serve: it's all about being excited over the food. The butchers are all knowledgeable and they're passionate about the food they prep, and it's what keeps them motivated day in, day out.
My recommendations? You absolutely cannot leave without a few Italian sausages (a variety of mild and hot ones,) a couple of rib eye steaks, and some cacciatore salaminos (super tasty cured sausages.) They're so flavourful and require very little seasoning. Did I mention they've also got some really good homemade spices? They're a must!
Head on over to pick up your dinner tonight - you'll probably end up leaving with dinner for the entire week (if you're anything like the BF) and while you're at it, don't forget to make a pit stop next door at La Grotte des Fromages for some cheese, cold cuts, or a sandwich if you're really hungry! But we'll save that adventure for another post...
